This is a review of the Boncare Infrared Thermometer for Forehead and Ear.Declaration: I am a physician, and received a free sample to review.A diagnostic instrument should be reviewed for its form, function, precision, and accuracy,Form: it is an attractively styled, handheld device. The edges are smooth, and the form is safe to use.Function: there is one button to press, by using the thumb of the hand that holds it. The button needs only a brief touch: it does not need to be held down, although that was my instinct at first use. When the button is pushed at first, there is a soft, short beep. When the temperature has been taken, there is an equally soft, longer beep. There is a short beep when the device turns itself off.The display shows an ear or a forehead when the temperature is taken: somehow it can tell which one you were measuring (I find this amazing). It uses 2 AAA batteries.To take a forehead temperature, you press the device lightly against the center of the forehead, then press the thumb button. This uses it with the probe cover in place, as it comes right out of the box.To take an ear temperature, you remove the probe cover by gently pulling it off. They you snuggle the probe into the ear as far as it can go, and then press the thumb button. I and others found that this did not cause any discomfort. When replacing the probe cover, there are two arrows that need to be aligned, which indicates that the cover is being replaced correctly. Good design feature.The device can be set for either Fahrenheit or Celsius. It can store 32 measurements. You can change the measurement to read in Fahrenheit or Celsius after it has been stored: another good design feature.You can set an alarm for a fever or a too-cold temperature. I don’t find that useful for me, but it might help if left for the use of cognitively impaired adults, or those with poor eyesight.Precision: Since the readout gives the temperature to 0.1 degree, you might think that its precision is 0.1 degree. However, precision is also influenced by repeatability. I made four repeat measurements on the forehead, and measured 97.3,97.7,97.9,98.0. This gives a standard deviation of 0.3 degrees. With only 4 readings, this is pretty close to their claim of 0.4 degrees.Accuracy. This means how well does it compare to a standard. Like if your bathroom scale says you way 150.1 pound, it may have a precision of 0.1 pound, but if the doctor’s balance beam scale weighs you at 154, then your bathroom scale is not accurate by 4 pounds. I could not compare this to a mercury thermometer, since mercury thermometers are not designed for use on foreheads or in ears.Summary: this is a well-designed, well-functioning digital thermometer. It requires skin contact to measure, so it’s not like the scanners at a distance that people screening for COVID-19 are using. I recommend it highly for personal home use.

Amazing Thermometer!
I love this thermometer! It takes an accurate temperature quickly! No more fighting a child to hold still long enough to get a read under their tongue. Simply touch the thermometer to their forehead and a second later you have a temperature! It is super easy to use and comes with a nice protective bag. The ear probe is conviently located inside the head of the unit and keeps it protected and clean. Truly a great product!

Not bad for the price
Received quickly and immediately tried it. Forehead temps are not accurate at all. However, if you remove the top and use it in the ear, it seems to give an accurate reading. It’s a good price and easy to use. Just make sure to try both the forehead and the ear to see what works best for you. There was a huge difference in both for us, with the forehead reading being much higher than the ear reading. We are using it for adults, not children. Overall, a good deal and we will continue to use it as an ear thermometer. Stay safe!

This devise is not accurate and doesn’t work as advertised. Don’t waste your money
The functionality of this item is NOT as advertised. This initially turned on looking like it would have all the functions advertised. I tried the adult forehead thermometer function and it seemed fine. I put it in the cabinet and got it out two days later. It no longer shows all the settings. Only ambient temp, adult forehead and child/infant forehead show on the display now. I have read through the instruction booklet that came with it and there are no instructions to get all the functions reset to be used. I took the batteries out thinking it might reset, but that had no effect. Additionally, I’m doubtful of the accuracy of the unit as I took it along to a Dr appointment and the reading that the Drs office thermometer gave was .6 degrees higher than this unit. It has been in the hall cabinet for about a week now. I turned it off per the instructions and I periodically hear it beeping like it’s been turned on. This malfunction has drained the batteries. This is absolutely not as advertised and had I not already used it I would return it. I may return it anyway even if I don’t get a refund just to not have the non functioning item in my house and leave it up to Amazon to put it into the landfill.Very poor value item. In my opinion it’s a skip it and keep shopping for a better, properly functioning devise. (I had to give it 1 star just to do the review, but it doesn’t deserve that 1 star.)
