Straightforward and simple video baby monitor
This Motorola Nursery Baby Monitor offers a simple set up with straightforward operation. The package includes the camera, the monitor, two power adapters, and a short instruction booklet. The two power adapters have a standard two-prong AC adapter that you plug into a wall outlet which is permanently connected to a thin cable that ends with a circular pin that plugs into the camera’s base or into the monitor. The cable is only about 5 feet long, though, so if you plug it directly into a wall, you won’t be able to position the camera on a high shelf without an extension cord. The video and audio quality is perfectly acceptable to pretty good. You don’t use your phone and there is no app involved. Just plug in the camera and turn on the monitor and they should automatically pair within seconds. The camera has a motor inside that allows it to pan side-to-side, which is controlled by the monitor’s d-pad like layout. That level of viewing adjustability in a somewhat budget baby monitor is good. The main product description says this camera also features tilting, but that’s not entirely true. The tilt is just a digital tilt, likely from the camera being a square sensor while the video feed is a rectangle, so there are some extra pixels that are not shown in the monitor. That allows you to digitally tilt up and down a couple small degrees to see more of the picture, but the camera itself does not move up or down remotely. You can use your hands to position the camera angle downward, though, to get the initial angle that you desire. The video range works in any space within my house, including going up or down a level. I imagine it will work in most houses. The camera unit also has IR light, so you can get a night vision view of the nursery that is as good as any other budget monitor. The motor in the camera’s base is quiet as it pans, so I think it should be durable to last a long time with regular usage. From the monitor, you can go into a limited settings panel that will allow you to play some white noise or lullabies from the camera base. The audio quality that the camera’s base speaker plays isn’t anything great, but I think that’s probably more due to the compression levels of the noise and lullabies stored in the base. You can also use hold down a button on the monitor to use the mic and talk to your baby through that same speaker in the camera’s base.Functionally, speaking, this straightforward, non-WiFi baby monitor works as intended and gives you a no-frills way to easily check on baby. Non-techie grandparents can use this after 1 minute of coaching. I feel that the only slight negative are the power chargers. I would have greatly preferred to have the monitor charge off of a USB-C connector so you could use any charger you have laying around the house. And I wish the power cable that runs to the camera was a foot or two longer for greater flexibility. But those are my only minor complaints. If you can get this at a reasonable price and just want a simple-to-use baby monitor, this is 4.5 stars with a round up to 5.

Good piece of mind in a simple to use and effective package.
Motorola Nursery 2.4GHz Baby Monitor. This monitor is head and shoulders above the one I’m replacing. My previous monitor had a smaller screen with poor picture quality, and has suffered from sporadic battery issues for at least a year and a half. The only areas where this Motorola unit falls short is with the length of the power cord to the camera, the tilt feature is pretty limited, and back lit function buttons would have been nice.Impressions:Easy set up! The startup guide recommended charging the monitor for 16hrs prior to turning it on, so I did so. Once charged, I powered the monitor and camera on, and the two automatically paired. They’ve continued to automatically pair, quickly, whenever I’ve unplugged and moved them or powered them down and back on. It’s really simple. As advertised, there is no wifi or app needed for operation. The communication signal is between the monitor and the camera, so it seems to be pretty safe, if you have privacy concerns. I do have another Motorola camera that has remote viewing, which required an app and wifi. This unit does not appear on the app as a discoverable device, so I believe the claim that this is a closed network device. The monitor display is good quality and the larger size is easy to see. The control buttons on the monitor are labeled and large enough to be easily manipulated without hitting the other buttons. It has nice features, to include lullabies you can switch between and adjust the volume of with the monitor, a pretty accurate temperature display, a sensitive noise detection feature, and an intercom so you can talk to your little one.The monitor is advertised to have sufficient rechargeable battery life to last the night, which is accurate. I haven’t fully drained it while timing it, but it’s lasted all night as my guy slept.I haven’t walked the block with the monitor to test the 1,000ft range, claim. But, I have a detached pole barn that’s at least 100ft from my house, and the connection lasts from my son’s room to inside the pole barn just fine.I do wish the power cord to the camera was a little longer. My other system’s cord was long enough to where I could plug it in and then run the line along the baseboard and up to the camera, where the wall meets the ceiling. It allowed me to get full view of the room. This cord doesn’t reach to the same spot, so I’ll have to mount it mid way up the wall or on a dresser instead.I wish the tilt feature was not limited to digital tilt and that the actual camera adjusted (like it does when panning). It really doesn’t travel far vertically, and it would be better to have more adjustability. The monitor buttons should have back lighting so you can better see them at night. That’s about it. It’s a nice system and I’m happy with it. I use this one in his room for when he’s sleeping, and the Motorola PIP 1710 in the living room to monitor him when I have stuff to do outside. I’ve had good luck with both units and I do recommend this one if you’d like to monitor your little one with a local private connection.

No Hassle Baby Monitor
In a day where every monitor seems to have to have an app and subscription this monitor is a nice change of pace. The picture quality is good for both light and night. The sound quality is also very good where you can hear everything going on in the room. There’s handheld monitor screen itself has good battery life and the range seems to be very long. I carried it around my house and outside without any drop in connection. There’s a temperature sensor that is essential and seems to be accurate. You can watch to make sure the room isn’t too hot or cold which not all monitors of this type have a temperature sensor. The monitor is super easy to set up. You basically turn it on and it all works. Overall this monitor is pretty basic but it does everything you need it to and does it well plus seems very reliable.
