Each happy farm animal “sounds off” in its own voice when its animal puzzle piece is placed correctly in this eight-piece wooden peg puzzle! Your child will enjoy hearing all eight sounds and looking at the full-color, matching pictures under the pieces, while developing matching and listening skills with this captivating multisensory puzzle. (TIP: Puzzle has light-activated sensors; for best results, expose the sensor by removing a piece in a brightly lit room, then make the sound play by replacing the piece in the board.) 2 AAA batteries required, not included.

Great puzzle but mine might be haunted?
This puzzle is great quality and my 14 month old enjoys it. However it randomly makes noises all the time – I could be across the house and I’ll hear a sheep or a dog making noise from the puzzle. Best to just keep it turned off if your little one isn’t playing with it.

Great for Speech- Helped my child imitate sounds
My toddler loves it! He has low vision so the sound helps him identify the animal and where it goes, the sound is clear enough for my son to imitate. It’s great for his age and perfect size. Not super heavy for toddlers that like to throw toys around so they won’t easily get hurt.

I’m Actually an Idiot
Updating my review from one star to five because lo and behold, it was user error. I thought the puzzle was activated by magnets/metal, not light. I read the back more clearly and realized I’m just a big dummy. The puzzle works great in bright natural light and my 14 month-old daughter (who is clearly smarter than me) is absolutely obsessed with it.*(Original review)* I’m normally a big Melissa & Doug fan. Within an hour of opening this item (a Christmas gift for my daughter), the puzzle stopped making sounds when placing pieces. For a little while it made random sounds (not matching the animal), now it does nothing. I tried replacing the batteries, and it moos when you switch it on, but that’s all.Seller wouldn’t let me exchange for a new one.

Simple toddler puzzle for introductory animal sound learning. THERE IS AN ON/OFF SWITCH.
These Melissa & Doug style puzzles are a hit in our house. They are great introductory puzzles to help little hands learn manipulation of objects and the sounds make things more engaging. As a learning toy, they are appropriate for younger toddlers, but can still be enjoyable and entertaining for older toddlers. In our house, the near 2-year-old is learning how to place the pieces and is learning the sounds of each animal. (It’s nice to have sounds beyond just the basics. Sure, they learn the farm animal sounds from Old MacDonald, but this gives us a bit more variety…which is REALLY nice when you have toddlers who like to repeat things ad nauseum ALL. DAY. LONG.We own THREE of the puzzles in this collection: vehicles, zoo, and farm. I would love to review them separately, as I would give two out of the three a 5-star rating. As it is, I have to give it a 4-star for a MINOR issue. This is purely due to some construction error in the particular piece we own. For some reason, our zebra is mildly haunted and will occasionally make sounds randomly if the puzzle is left unattended on a table. This is the only piece out of the three puzzles that does this and it doesn’t happen all the time, so I just shrug it off. Especially since THERE IS AN ON/OFF SWITCH on the back. (Thank you ever so much to the designers who put that in…some days I need a few sound-free minutes.) Another reviewer commented that you couldn’t play the puzzle in silent mode. For all of the versions we own, this is not the case. I can switch those babies off at any time. There is a small sound delay when placing multiple pieces, so you won’t hear the sound of a second piece until after the sound from the first piece finishes. This can be a little frustrating for toddlers on initial use, but I’ve found that it helps them learn patience. A few times playing with these puzzles and they quickly learn the quirks. It’s totally a nonissue for us.So…other than our poltergeist zebra, I give these puzzles a huge thumbs up. And hey…if you need a little extra surprise in your day, maybe random animal sounds can just add to your ambiance. For our house, these will get plenty of miles and I am very happy that we have them in our toddler puzzle collection.

Grandson Loves this Puzzle!
This is easily one of my 17 month old grandsons fav toys. He learned really fast where to put the pieces & sometimes copies making the sounds. Just adorable. All the animal sounds still going strong. Sometimes they seem to go off for no reason, so I shut the puzzle off when I’m not watching him. I will definitely be purchasing more. I saw there is a vehicle version.

Great puzzles for the kiddos
These are great puzzles for young developing brains. The quality is good and the artwork is very colorful.

Be careful easy to chip
Quality is not the best. It’s very easy to chip and start to separate the cardboard. The color is pretty. I do like the animals they’re adorable. Sound is confusing to the littles because if you have multiple out it’ll make different sounds. I would say definitely more for maybe a 2-4 year old versus the 1-2 range
