It’s a great gift for a toddler or small child to create their own masterpieces but I implore you to keep an eye on your child AT ALL TIMES while playing with any of the instruments.The castanet(s) is tied together with a stretchy cord. Our cord’s knot came undone. The cord could be a choking hazard. I simply tied the cord back into a knot and added a dab of (gorilla brand**) hot glue to insure the knot would stay in place. **I used gorilla brand as it’s a high heat hot glue and works better than say, dollar store brand, low heat glue. I recommend either high heat hot glue or fabric glue to keep the cord knotted. )My biggest disappointment was the xylophone. I know it’s just for kids and a rather inexpensive set, so you get what you pay for. When it arrived, the lighter blue and green keys were (and still are) misaligned and subsequently do not play the correct tune. An annoyance only to myself and hubby. The worst disappointment is that both end caps came off. It was a 1st birthday gift for our daughter, who turned one in late December. She doesn’t play with it as often as other toys she has toys that do the work for her- light up/ music toys where she can push a button and it’ll play by itself, entertaining her without her effort, lol. The xylophone was out this evening and I heard her “tink, tink, tinking” away on it and I look over and she had the larger end cap tinking the keys.Not a huge deal, but still.. the edges are not finished and there was a potential she could’ve gotten a splinter in her finger or, since she still puts anything that fits in there, a splinter in her mouth.I was able to pull just a bit and the smaller end came off. I used a dab of high heat hot glue and some wood glue on both end pieces and now have them “curing” overnight. ALSO!! The xylophones percussion sticks should absolutely be used under supervision if given to a child under 3!!Overall, I’m still satisfied with my purchase but if you’re quite finicky or giving as a gift- you probably won’t like this set. If this isn’t your first child/ grandchild and you’re used to toys breaking a bit but easily fixed, this is a great set. That’s why I gave 4 stars.Durability/ stability is definitely in the low end but all issues easily fixed.

Cute but won’t last
This is cute but I really don’t believe it’s a very good value. I only took a few items out of the zip pouch it came in because I bought this to give as a gift and things are wedged so tightly, I didn’t think I would be able to get it all back in. Don’t buy it just because it has a storage case because a child would never be able to put everything back in the pouch.I can’t say it’s smaller than expected because the dimensions are clearly stated in the description. Item Dimensions LxWxH9.65 x 7.09 x 2.76 inches. That is my fault for not reading the description completely.To me, the xylophone and mallets are the most important part of the set and they are made with such thin wood that surely they won’t last very long. Especially the mallets as they are made from a very small diameter dowel and would be easily broken by small children. The xylophone does have a pleasant sound and will be fun while it lasts.If you purchase this set for a small child, I recommend not letting them play with it unattended as there are many small, delicate parts. And be prepared to buy a small storage tote to store it in, alternatively it will also fit in a regular size shoe box.I contemplated returning it to Amazon mainly because I feel it is overpriced for what you get, especially since the storage pouch is useless. I decided to keep it to gift because it is cute and does sound pleasant.
